Neil deGrasse Tyson Reenacts Gravity — as Sandra Bullock

Mar 8 2014 - 10:09am

Neil deGrasse Tyson has not been shy about making known his qualms about the scientific accuracies of Oscar-winning space film Gravity [1]. Not least of which is why Sandra Bullock's medical doctor character [2] was chosen as the astronaut to work on repairing the Hubble telescope; a true mystery for the ages. But one of his prime concerns was what would have really happened in zero gravity when Sandra and George Clooney [3]'s characters untethered themselves from one another with nothing but the great void of the universe between them.

Recently found footage from a StarTalk Live in November 2013 shows Neil reenacting that panic-inducing scene with physicist Brian Greene as George (Neil is Sandra, of course), comedian Eugene Mirman as The Space Station, Michael Ian Black as The Voice of Hollywood Reason, and NASA astronaut Mike Massimino as Scene Supervisor.

Get ready for some space education in the reenactment below — plus a cameo by Neil's incredible boots — and prepare for more stellar space facts when Neil's new show, Cosmos, premieres this Sunday, March 9 [4].
