Last night's blood moon [1] was beautiful alright. This morning, your feeds were full of photos of the rare total lunar eclipse [2], weren't they? But while many looked similar, this one in particular caught our attention. The details of the moon's surface are incredible and it was shot not on a professional-grade DSLR, but on an iPhone.
The trick to getting the shot? The photographer, Blake Steck of New Smyrna Beach, FL, put his phone right up to the telescope — a technique often referred to as digiscoping. Something to try when the next eclipse comes along.
