Peek, the Email-Only Device Goes On Sale Monday

Remember the email-only device, Peek, that I got a peek of early (I know, I know, but I couldn't resist)? It looks like it'll be available for sale on Monday at Target, and it's already available for preorder on its website.

I guess we weren't the only ones who were into this simple little device — not only does NYT tech columnist (and my idol) David Pogue love it, the turquoise and cherry colors are already on back order.

I can't wait to see Peek on Target shelves — and at $100, with the $20/month subscription service, I'm curious to see who'll be picking these up. Are you going to get one?

I might get a Peek. I'm still an extra line of my family's family plan, so for me this would be much cheaper than getting a smart phone.

Seems cool, but I don't need it.

i don't get why people think having a smartphone means you have to make yourself available. you still have control of how you spend your time. if i don't want to be bothered, i don't answer. it's that simple. and you can send all the emails and texts you want but i determine when they get answered. not someone else.

Honestly... It's not pointless, it's just coming out too late in the game. I understand why someone would justify getting a Peek. Someone who doesn't have the ability to have a blackberry or iPhone (due to the insane amount of money it takes to pay for one, to pay for plans, to pay for the accidents and buying a replacement.) but seems pointless. If you live in an area like me, I'm surrounded by computers all the time...there is no need for such a device, especially when I have an iPhone already as well.. Sorry should of came out and played 5 years ago.

there are already too many things in my purse. i say pay a little more, get an iphone, and do it as an all in one. much easier. this idea might have gone over well ten years ago, before all phones had internet capability but now, its just too late.

If it comes down in price, I could understand getting one, but with that on top of your regular cell phone bill, you might as well just get a blackberry or iphone, no?

I'll admit, at first I thought "why!?" but then I read some of the comments on your initial review and here's what I think about it! I am a self-proclaimed "I only need my cell phone to be a phone" person and I will never go the smart phone route. Part of me asks, why not just get a black berry and be done with it instead of lugging two separate gadgets but then I thought how nice it would be to check my email at certain times (like on the train in the morning or maybe on long car trips) but other times I'd hate to have it available (like on vacation, or a random trip to the store to run errands). The thing I hate about blackberry is that you have no excuse for not being reached by phone or email. With this, I can easily say, I left my peek at home! Sorry! :P
