Animals are plenty adorable on their own, but add an illustration plus a heartbreaking fact about them, and you've got something so cute it hurts. Thankfully, that genius idea already exists from Oregon-based illustrator Brooke Barker [1], who is the genius behind the Instagram account Sad Animal Facts [2].

With new ones on an almost-weekly basis, the awesome illustrations are not only informative but also relatable and make you feel a connection with the animal. Many of the facts that Barker chooses have a human element to them, whether it's part of the fact or what the animals "say" in response to the information.
