This Smartphone Doesn't Need to Be Plugged In For Days

Sep 4 2014 - 6:35am

Sony's line of Xperia Z phones have had one key differentiator from competitors — a waterproof exterior — and with the announcement of Xperia Z3 this week, the company's boasting one more feature that many smartphones don't have: a long battery life. According to Sony, the Xperia Z3 will have a two-day battery life with normal usage [1], making the iPhone 5S's eight to 10 hours of battery life with normal usage seem primitive.

As with Sony's original Xperia Z and Z2, the Z3 is water-resistant and can be submerged in up to three feet of water for no more than 30 minutes. The 5.2-inch display is just a bit smaller than Samsung's new phablet the Galaxy Note 4 [2] and is said to have improved screen visibility in direct sunlight from the Z2.

A 20.7MP camera should have an easier time capturing pictures in low-light situations, a notorious problem for most phones on the market. Running on Android KitKat, the phone can double as a remote with your PlayStation 4.

The Xperia Z3 forgoes the usual brick look of previous Sony phones for the aluminum curves [3] that seem to be popular this year. When the Z3 launches on T-Mobile in the Fall, it will be available in four colors: white, black, lime, and copper. Scroll on for a closer look at the Xperia Z3.
