Unfriending Facebook Friends 2010-10-25 15:45:10

Which Action Is Most Likely to Cause You to Unfriend Someone on Facebook?

New research from the University of Colorado suggests that the two most common reasons for Facebook unfriending are: one, posting too often. And, two: posting about particularly polarizing topics like religion and politics.

Most of you agree that aggressive political posting could be grounds for removal, and often too many posts about your kids can have the same effect. As one of my friends oh-so-brilliantly put it, "If I wanted to see photos of your baby, I'd friend your baby."

Children I can handle, but angry political commentary pushes me over the edge. And once I unfriended an acquaintance who posted only whiny, negative comments about her day to day activities. Which action makes you most likely to unfriend someone on Facebook?

yikes. the majority of you are shallow if you de-friend people who hold different religious or political views than you. i de-friend if i don't know the people, and need to do more of that since i have people from college that i maybe had one class with.. otherwise, i just hide people who annoy me.

Only if you were a friend of a friend. I don't take fb too seriously to entertain the b.s. reasons given as options. Not to mention others.

Oh wait I think this is missing a good one for the original college crowd, those 'potential X's' People from schools, (or jobs and friends-friends) who connect with someone because they liked them. They comment on a picture/status for a few weeks but then magically delete the other (or get deleted) out of jealousy, frustration or just a reality check. I saw that way more often than any politics/religion

i don't unfriend...i hide. i realize people out there are different from me - it's called 'diversity'. it's THEIR fb page - they can post whatever they want. if i don't like what they talk about - why lose a friendship over it - just hide them from your wall!!

Ditto to anon 3. I wouldn't unfriend anyone for the reasons listed here, but I would unfriend someone who isn't actually a friend in the first place.

When my untalented "friends" from High School whom I haven't seen in nearly 10 years invite me to every rap battle, improv open mic night and rock shows at local community centers they're in. Peace out, click!

When they send me invites for applications or events that have nothing to do with me in any which way or form.

I unfriend someone when I realize I don't like them much anymore and they annoy me. For relatives who do that I hide them.

I have deleted friends fro getting into arguments with each other in my wall. For posting inappropriate things on my wall, and just yesterday for commenting that God would be very disappointed in me for posting that I thought the person who broke into my mothers house, and not only robbed the house but her feeling of safety, should suffer a violent death that involves a chainsaw or Michael Meyers. She posted 10 times that day asking me if I had prayed for forgiveness.

It's not just posting anything about politics that will get you defriended by me....but, for example, I defriended someone because the day Obama was elected president, he just started complaining and listing awful things about him (most that weren't even true!). Another person just got defriended (today) for always talking about G-d in her updates ("Praise the lord for passing that test", etc.). And not just once...literally at least 3 times a day she was either praising Jesus or praying for something or another. It was just enough. And I wasn't close either of these people.

I unfriend anyone whom I realize shouldn't have "access" to my life. It's not that I air everything out on Facebook, but I am cognizant of what I post, sp if I don't feel comfortable sharing it with certain people, then this same people really shouldn't be connected to me in the first place. I take this same approach for accepting friend requests as well.

Complaining! I also don't accept friend requests from people I don't know personally or people who have an insane amount of friends.
