Would You Text Your Pizza Order?

Popular pizza chain Papa John's has launched a text message ordering option at 2,700 US restaurants that allows customers to text their orders in to a local franchise. The company has been using an online ordering service since 2001 and claims web orders account for nearly 20 percent of its US sales.

Domino's Pizza has also started a system that allows hungry customers to place orders from web-enabled cell phones and PDAs. According to AP, the ordering system is available at about 3,000 Domino's locations and will spread to all of the chain's 5,100 restaurants next year.

I happen to be a pizza fanatic so I love the idea of having more than one way to order a hot slice, but I think I would worry if my order had gone through or not if it took a while to arrive.

i might use the online one though. it's probably more specific than texting.

Our local sushi place has an online ordering system that works fabulously. I love not having to talk to someone.

On my plan it'd be cheaper to call than to text- so no, I wouldn't.

For sure I would! I hate calling, it's a pin in the butt, and I would totally take the quick texting way anytime :)

They've had texting for a pizza order in New Zealand for quite some time - only difference is that each menu item has a text code, and a discount voucher also has a discount code, and that is what gets texted through. Then at the other end, the message gets translated into the plain English pizza description, and printed out for the pizza makers. Of course, an auto-response is sent to the cellphone, and moments later, a human calls them back to confirm. I think it's fantastic. My order used to have items written down wrong, items missed out, when I've said "without pineapple", I've had extra pineapple put on it -My overall pizza ordering experience made much better with text and internet ordering!

I agree with terryt18. I don't see how this is lazy either. The amount of effort and time either way. I just hate talking to people so I'd much rather text them >____>;;

I would rather talk to someone - I like to know that my order is really being made when I'm sitting at home hungary

No. I'd call!

Once again I don't get why this is "lazy"...because picking up the phone and speaking requires much more effort? Does anyone else smell that? Smells like self-satisfaction to me. Anyhoo, here's the dealio. You can save up to 4 of your favorite orders, and then text "Send Order #2." And you will get a confirmation reply.

I would definitely do this - it helps get past the undertrained people who don't know how to answer the phone when you call!

I'd do it. Last time I called it took me 15 minutes for the dumb kid to get my order straight.

i'm a HUGE texter! and also, they have the order in writing from you, not just your verbal words...what if they misheard you?

fluffy your right Obesity epidemic. I can't tell you the last time I had pizza, let alone order it. I usually go the pizzeria, sit down, and eat. But thats something I do about 4 times a year.

I go pick it up as well, however, I still prefer to order online to make sure my order is correct.

"Obesity Epidemic".. You can order online, isn't that good enough for most people? I personally go to the takeaway in person whenever I (rarely) have it! Ick.. lazy.

I am a big fan of ordering online, it allows me to make sure my order is right. If I order on the phone they sometimes misunderstand me and I end up with the wrong thing. However, I think texting would be worse than talking. Too many typos, and you may have to send more than one message depending on the pizza and your address.

i don't think I'll ever use this service, called me old fashion, i want to talk to a person!
