Apple's Black Unity Collection Celebrates Black History Month With a Limited-Edition Watch

To celebrate Black History Month, Apple released a limited-edition Black Unity Collection on Feb. 1. The collection includes the Apple Watch Series 6 ($399+), the Black Unity Sport Band ($49), and a Unity watch face. The Black creatives and allies who designed this collection wanted to honor the continuous fight for racial equity. And to achieve that goal financially, Apple will support six global organizations advancing equality and civil rights efforts, including the Black Lives Matter Support Fund via the Tides Foundation, European Network Against Racism, International Institute on Race, Equality and Human Rights, Leadership Conference Education Fund, NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc., and and Souls Grown Deep.

The collection's appearance also commemorates Black traditions and history. The colors used are red, black, and green in honor of the Pan-African flag. The red stands for the blood uniting and liberating the people of the African Diaspora, the black represents the people affirmed by the flag, and the green signifies Africa's great natural wealth. Additionally, "Truth. Power. Solidarity." is engraved on the interior of the sport band's fastening pin. The sport band is made from fluoroelastomer, which is a synthetic rubber, and the pattern on the watch face changes as the watch moves.

When it comes to pricing and availability, the Apple Watch Series 6 Black Unity with the GPS feature starts at $399, and the Apple Watch Series 6 Black Unity with both the GPS and the cellular feature starts at $499. The cellular option differs in that it allows you to send messages, receive calls, listen to music, and more, regardless of whether your iPhone is nearby. These products will be available for purchase only in February. But the Black Unity Sport Band, costing $49, will be available throughout the year.
