Stay at Chicago's Longman and Eagle Inn After Dinner and Whiskey at Gastropub

Eat, Drink, and Be Merry at Chicago's Longman & Eagle Inn

If you happen to wander into Chicago's Logan Square neighborhood looking for a bite to eat, you'd be well-served by the upscale pub food at Longman & Eagle, which has earned a Michelin star. Chances are, you may end up lingering over drinks after your meal (there are 30 different $3 whiskey choices every night, after all).

And if you find yourself downing perhaps one whiskey too many, don't worry about calling a cab. Instead, step upstairs to the Longman & Eagle Inn, a six-bedroom boutique hotel owned and operated by the same folks behind the gastropub.

Designed by Cody Hudson, the inn features the woodwork of Robert McAdams
throughout the six rooms. There's a very cool, masculine vibe in each of the rooms, with live edge headboards, lots of dark wood, hanging terrariums, and original art by artists including Virgil Wong, Stephen Eichhorn, and Cody Hudson in each room. Oh, and if you can't afford to pay for any more of those $3 whiskey shots, don't worry: the inn offers free tokens for whiskey tasting to its overnight guests.

Tour all of the rooms and learn about special budget rates!

Two budget-sized rooms start at $75 a night, which is a steal for such a well-designed accommodation. Be prepared to be a little cramped for space in the two smaller budget rooms — there's only a full-sized bed, and the Euro-style shower and toilet glass enclosure may befuddle Americans used to their spacious bathrooms.

Speaking of bathrooms, the one design feature that doesn't resonate with me is the use of clear glass doors for all of the toilets. Sure, we all want to be intimate with our better halves, but full-exposure ablutions are a bit much, in my opinion. Perhaps moments like those would qualify as a good time to step downstairs to the pub for another swig of whiskey.

Other features in the six rooms include LCD television with Apple TV ( which includes Internet radio, Netflix, YouTube, and more) and media player, analog stereo cassette tape set-up and accompanying mix tapes, and speaker sculptures by Juan Angel Valdez.
