Sunday Bike Ride to Ocean Beach
While any day is a good day to ride your bike in San Francisco, Sunday is special. From 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Golden Gate Park (John F. Kennedy Drive and Transverse Drive) closes its roads to auto traffic, giving cyclists a wide-open lane all the way to Ocean Beach. I usually start my ride at the Panhandle and head the 4.5 miles to the coast. Along the way, check out the California Academy of Sciences or the De Young Museum, both of which are located in the park.
Bikes can be rented in the park near the museums, or stop off at Golden Gate Bike Rentals (1816 Haight St., 415-922-4537) which is conveniently located at the beginning of Golden Gate Park. — MF
