9 Airports Where You Can Find Therapy Animals to Ease Your Travel Anxiety

Traveling is amazing and life-changing and has the ability to change your entire perspective. But sometimes getting to your destination is stressful and can cause anxiety. Many airports have implemented therapy dog programs to help make your travels a little easier and filled with more soft cuddles. Check out these airports across the country that have furry friends walking around to make your trip smoother.

01

San Francisco International Airport (SFO)

The airport has formed a team of more than 20 therapy dogs that wander around the airport with a volunteer. It's called the Wag Brigade, and they have been making airport travel less stressful in San Francisco since 2013.

02

Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)

The busy Southern California airport has a team of 30 dogs called the PUP program, which stands for Pets Unstressing Passengers. It started in 2013, and they are constantly looking for volunteers to help with the program. The volunteers who walk around with the lovable pets can also help with airport information.

03

Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT)

The North Carolina hub implemented its dog program in 2015. The furry friends walk around with vests that say "Pet Me" on them. They visit the terminals two to three times per month, and volunteers help on the big day. The airport will post on Instagram when the dogs are expected at the airport.

04

Minneapolis St. Paul International Airport (MSP)

It's one of the busiest airports in the country as it's a huge hub for Delta, so it's bound to get a little stressful. That's why the airport implemented its Animal Ambassador Program to help ease the stress. The airport has petting stations throughout the terminals, so if you are feeling a little anxious or have a long layover, you can find them to help make you feel better.

05

Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO)

The airport implemented its Paws 4 Passengers program over Thanksgiving in 2014. Twenty dogs and their handlers are now in the program and regularly visit the terminals to help passengers feel better.

06

Mineta San Jose International Airport (SJC)

Dogs visit the airport in San Jose every Monday. They have been helping travelers with stressful airport experiences for the past four years.

07

Syracuse International Airport (SYR)

No major airport in New York City has yet to implement a therapy dogs program, but Syracuse International Airport in upstate New York is on the ball with its furry friends. Charlie Tango is just one of many pups you will find at the international airport, full of energy and ready to make you feel better about your stressful travel itinerary.

08

Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL)

The program here is called the AmbassaDogs, and they have been roaming the small airport since August 2013. The dogs, like Phoebe, help calm people's nerves and make them feel safe before their flights. They even help out with special programs like the Autism in Flight event.

09

Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW)

The large airport implemented its dog therapy program in 2016, called the DFW K9 Crew. Similar to other airports, the dogs are there to ease passenger stress, but their handlers can also assist with customer service needs and answer any questions to help with those stresses as well.
