Kate Middleton's Style Came, Saw, and Conquered the Land Down Under

Apr 25 2014 - 7:36am

We all know that Kate Middleton has an enviable jewelry collection [1], but who knew her stash of coats [2] was so good? The duchess wrapped up her tour of Australia in yet another topper, this one an indigo Michael Kors design. Add that to the striking emerald number she appeared in one day earlier, and we all have to bow down to Kate's coat closet.

The chicness of the looks come as no surprise, though — as big fans of Kate Middleton's general style [3], we knew that her tour of Australia and New Zealand with William and George was going to be packed with sophisticated ensembles. She kicked it off [4] in a bold red Catherine Walker coat dress (similar to a number picked by Diana for a royal visit in 1984 [5]), and it was smooth sailing from there. See every style that emerged from her suitcase in the gallery.

Kate Middleton in Yellow Eyelet

To spend Easter afternoon at the Taronga Zoo in Sydney, Kate slipped into something more casual: a short-sleeved, pale yellow eyelet dress and the same Stuart Weitzman wedges she wore at the beach [7].

For her stop in Brisbane, Kate chose a white elbow-length dress with a smattering of blue blooms at the waist. Gone were her trusty nude pumps, though: instead, she picked a navy pair and carried a bright blue clutch.

Kate Middleton in Tory Burch

For her second official outfit on her current tour of Australia and New Zealand, Kate Middleton showed some serious US support, wearing a knit black-and-white dress from Tory Burch.

Kate Middleton in Catherine Walker

To start off her tour in New Zealand, Kate picked a red coat dress by Catherine Walker that showed off two columns of buttons and a smart collar. We loved her accessories: a matching hat reminiscent of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis's best pillboxes and a diamond-and-platinum brooch in the shape of a fern. The piece, meant to represent New Zealand's national symbol, was gifted to Queen Elizabeth II on a tour of the country in 1953, and she kindly loaned it to Kate for the occasion [8].

Like good students of fashion, we needed a side angle to fully zoom in on the shoes Kate picked. She walked the tarmac in tasteful black pumps with a small hidden platform.
