When we first looked at our house before buying it, we knew we wouldn't be able to live long with this 1990's bathroom complete with plastic marble tub. So it took us two weeks from moving to start the demo process and get to work! Not only is this the only bathroom in the house but it is tiny! I mean really tiny, if I remember correctly it is just 5 by 7 feet. We opted to keep the same configuration since there was really no other way! We searched high and low for a small sink with storage and luckily Ikea had just what we were looking for, of course at a great price too! The whole process took about three weeks and a couple more months of fine tuning. It isn't quite done yet as I still have a few ideas for the mirror and have to eventually find some art work but it has come along way from the 1990's!
Before Bathroom: Shower
Yellowing cabinets, faux marble shower and counter. Pretty much straight from the 1995!
Before Bathroom: Cabinet
A lovely faux marble counter extended across the top of the toliet and a huge rickety medicine cabinet.
Before Bathroom: Floor
Cheap cabinet and cheap floor all had to go!
Demo
We took everything out but the toliet and the light fixture we weren't keeping, so we could start tiling!
Let the Tiling Begin
Subway tile is no easy feat but it looks gorgeous in the end.
Shower and Floor Tile Finished
Still more work to be done!
After: Small Lovely Modern Bathroom
We used a small cabinet from Ikea since we were so limited on space. We had planned to put shallow storage cabinets in the wall behind the door but with the beams in the house didn't lend us to easy installation, so we went with matching cabinets above the toliet for extra storage.
Subway Tiles and Niches for Everything
I have always the loved the classic look of the subway tiles and rather than clutter up the edge of the bathtub, we installed niches for all of our shower essentials.
Simple Hex Floor with a Light Gray Grout
We used a subway tile in the shower and simple hex floor tile. Rather than use white grout which is hard to keep clean, we went with a contrasting gray grout.
No Shower Curtain
Since the bathroom is so small we didn't want to install any glass doors, so we opted to use simple shower liner and then a panel to hide the shower curtain when it isn't in use.
Double Towel Rack
We made use of a double towel rack that was relatively flush and sturdy from Restoration Hardware.
