Every now and then your hair needs a break — with all the processing, coloring, and blow-drying you do, you need to give your mane some love. Take time off from the heat and try and rebuild a healthy head of hair with shampoo and conditioner specifically formulated for dry strands. Then be sure to style it as-is with no hot tools. Need some inspiration? Up ahead, five no-heat hairstyles that will complement your moisturizing treatment perfectly.
The look: Beachy waves
How to do it: You'll need an elastic headband and a freshly washed head of hair. With the headband sitting just at the forehead, carefully select one-inch sections of hair and wrap them over and around the headband. (Pro tip: the looser the wrap, the looser the curl. Each section should be pulled away from your face.) To set, spritz hair with hair spray. For best results, sleep on it and wait until morning to remove the headband.
The look: Tight curls
How to do it: Start by rubbing argan oil throughout wet hair. Next, take 1/2-inch sections of hair and loosely curl around your finger, starting with the ends of hair and working your way up toward your roots. You don't want to twist hair; rather, you're creating a circle. Once the desired circle reaches the crown of your hair, use bobby pins to hold. Sleep on it and in the morning release pins for fresh bouncy curls.
The look: Double french braids
How to do it: Part damp hair down the center to start, and rubber-band one section to get it out of the way. Then, take the other half and section this portion of hair into three even strands. Take the right strand and cross it over the middle strand. Take the left strand and cross it over the middle strand. Be sure you are adding more hair with each crossover. Continue this pattern until the end and secure with a rubber band.
The look: Messy topknot
How to do it: This style is best achieved with second-day hair that has only been washed with a conditioner, which helps keep your dry strands moisturized and also enhances staying power for the look. Gather hair into a high ponytail at the top of your head and twist your loose hair until it's tight. Then, wrap the ponytail around itself into a messy bun. Secure with an elastic band and pull on the bun to widen. Spray with hair spray when finished.
The look: Messy half-up topknot
How to do it: Section off the top portion of your hair and toss it up around your crown into a messy bun. Secure with bobby pins. Be sure to pull a few wisps out from behind your ears to make the look cool-girl approved.
