George Clooney Jokes That Amal Is the "Smart One"

Although George Clooney hit the red carpet with Danny DeVito instead of Amal on Monday, he made a point to give his wife a funny shout-out during the SeriousFun Children's Network gala in NYC. At the event, George talked about Paul Newman's legacy of helping sick children, referencing the international network of camps founded by the late actor. "Today, there isn't just one camp, but there's a thriving community in the US, in Europe, in Israel," George said. "Since 1988, these camps have brought over a half-million sick kids and their families from over five hun . . . — over 50 countries. Five hundred countries would be too many. There aren't actually that many." The audience laughed at George's fumble, and he joked, "My wife's the smart one."

The event at Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall raised more than $1.5 million for SeriousFun Children's Network, and there were appearances and performances by Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks, David Letterman, Carole King, Ingrid Michaelson, and Natalie Cole. To close out the night, Meryl and Tom joined George on stage to sing and dance alongside SeriousFun campers while Aloe Blacc performed "Wake Me Up."
