There has been a lot of speculation over the past few days about whether Meghan Markle's father, Thomas Markle, will in fact be attending her wedding to Prince Harry on Saturday.

On Thursday morning, Meghan released a statement via Kensington Palace, confirming that her dad will not be in attendance. The statement reads: "Sadly, my father will not be attending our wedding. I have always cared for my father and hope he can be given the space he needs to focus on his health."

Meghan chose not to go into detail about her father's health condition, but Thomas told TMZ that he was undergoing heart surgery this week. There was already a question mark over his attendance following reports that he had been staging photos of himself with the paparazzi in the weeks leading up to the wedding.

In her short statement, Meghan also extended thanks to "everyone who offered generous messages of support," reiterating that that she and Harry look forward to sharing their wedding day with the public on Saturday.
