Man Survives a Plane Crash and Takes a Selfie to Prove It

When a small Makani Kai Air plane went down off the coast of Hawaii last month, Ferdinand Puentes was on board. He survived the crash and snapped this selfie as he stayed afloat on his seat cushion (that works!). I think we can declare him the winner of the "Selfie Olympics," the latest meme that involves taking the most creative smartphone self portrait you can manage. Staying afloat was no easy feat for Ferdinand, who told a local news outlet that he was wearing "steel-toed boots, heavy work jeans, and long-sleeve shirt." He also happened to catch a video of the dramatic plunge. Sadly, Hawaii’s Health Director Loretta Fuddy, did not survive the accident.
