10 Seasons and Counting! 11 Shows That Have Been on For Over a Decade

Everett Collection

A ton of new shows are about to land on primetime this Fall — and then there are the old standbys. Shows like The Simpsons and Supernatural have been on the air for years, and they're coming back with all-new episodes. For your enjoyment, we've compiled a list of the shows that have been on for over a decade, but note that it's limited to scripted series. (Sorry, America's Funniest Home Videos.) Take a look!

The Simpsons

Premiere date: Dec. 17, 1989

No surprise here — The Simpsons is gearing up for its 28th season this Fall. The animated comedy has done it all, so it's actually shocking that there's still material left to cover.

South Park

Premiere date: Aug. 13, 1997

Season 20 of Comedy Central's longest-running series will begin this Fall. The show has covered endless topics over its 267 episodes, and is already renewed through 2019.

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit

Premiere date: Sept. 20, 1999

About to come back for season 18, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit has the potential to overtake its predecessor, Law & Order, which ran for 20 seasons before ending in 2010.

Family Guy

Premiere date: Jan. 31, 1999

Family Guy is a special case; it premiered in 1999, but Fox canceled it after three seasons, then revived it in 2005, and it has been on the air ever since. This means it's been on the air for a total of 14 seasons, with the 15th to air this year!

NCIS

Premiere date: Sept. 23, 2003

NCIS (which stands for Naval Criminal Investigative Service) is coming back for an astounding 14th season this year, and it's already been renewed for a 15th. The cast has changed over time, but the show has dominated primetime ratings for years.

Grey's Anatomy

Premiere date: March 27, 2005

Aside from The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet, which ran in the '50s and '60s, Grey's Anatomy is ABC's longest-running show. Get ready for season 13, airing this Fall!

Criminal Minds

Premiere date: Sept. 22, 2005

Criminal Minds is another procedural that will probably never end. It's scheduled to begin its 12th season on CBS this Fall!

Supernatural

Premiere date: Sept. 13, 2005

Supernatural is so old that it started while The CW was still The WB. We're forever grateful that it's heading into its 12th season, with no signs of slowing down.

Bones

Premiere date: Sept. 13, 2005

Ah, Bones. The series is still on, but its upcoming 12th season (coming in 2017) will be its last.

American Dad!

Premiere date: Feb. 6, 2005

American Dad! is another animated comedy that has lasted the test of time. It started on Fox, then moved to TBS in its 12th season. It has already been renewed through season 15!

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia

Premiere date: Aug. 4, 2005

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is the little comedy that could. FX has renewed the show for 13th and 14th seasons, so it's not going anywhere any time soon.
