Director Terrence Malick (To the Wonder, Tree of Life) is known for making polarizing works of art that feature his (always good-looking) actors in beautiful or interesting settings, and the elements for Knight of Cups are Christian Bale as Rick and an excessive Hollywood backdrop. From the trailer, we can tell that his character is probably on some sort of journey searching for self and love, which a couple of his potential love interests (Natalie Portman, Imogen Poots, Cate Blanchett) remark on during the dreamy but intense preview. Given Malick's penchant for nonlinear, experimental storytelling, this mysterious trailer may actually be pretty telling. The long-in-production Knight of Cups will premiere in theaters on March 4, and you can get your first look now.
