I Can't Get Enough of These Life-Like Target and Starbucks Playsets This Dad Made

If Diego Gonzalez, a police officer and father of two from California, had to pinpoint his fiancée's and daughters' favorite place on Earth, it would be Target, no question. And while social distancing has been stressful on his family — especially because he's risking his life at work to keep everyone safe — he decided to make it up to his 2-year-old, Mila, by building her a custom Target cash register and Starbucks playset.

"Since daily life hasn't changed much for me, because I still have to go to work, I noticed my fiancée and daughters were the ones being affected being at home all day," he told POPSUGAR. "I decided to make their lives easier by creating a family project, which in the end, would give my daughters endless hours of fun. Mila loves her Target register and Starbucks stand. She's in her playroom every day, and it's a struggle to get her out."

In total, both projects took Diego six hours, but he can't help but be proud of his handiwork. He even managed to snag a few Starbucks aprons from some helpful employees! "The Target register took me about three days to complete," he explained. "We had to paint several parts, print out custom decals, Target stickers, store barcodes, and price tags. The Starbucks stand took another three days, and was [built] from scratch. It required a few trips to Home Depot and some woodworking lessons."

For Diego, working on the special projects with his family meant the world. "The bonding was the best part of our projects! We now have pictures, videos, and memories that we'll be able to include in her scrap book she'll be able to look back at when she's older," he said. "Being a father is a challenge within itself. Working full time as a deputy sheriff on street patrol and being on-call 24/7 for the SWAT team doesn't make it any easier. Regardless, I strive to be present in my family's everyday life and giving the community I serve the best public service I can."
