If you're over the moon about your impending baby, why not celebrate his or her arrival with an outer space celebration? "The mama-to-be wanted a space-themed shower because she had been calling the little one 'Captain' all during the pregnancy," says Carlene Smith of Naturally Yours Events. "When we found out it was a little girl, I was excited for the challenge of putting together a typical boy-themed shower for a little girl. Everything about this party was tailored to the happy parents and their love of sci-fi.
"Since it was a challenge to buy decor for a shower with this theme without people thinking baby Lucy was a boy, we had to specially design everything from invites to banners to favor tags!" Carlene continues. "We turned blue astronaut suits and green spaceships to pink ones and added a mix of cool chevron prints with pops of polka-dots." Those details and so many more (check out the star map created with guests' fingerprints!) make this one creative, literally out-of-this-world shower! A closer look at the invitations, specially designed for the shower by party planner Carlene Smith of Naturally Yours Events.
"The sweets from Luscious Layers Bakery were amazing; they outdid themselves with alien cookies, planet cake pops, and milky way brownies," Carlene says.
The ombre cake from Luscious Layers Bakery had star cutouts, pink planets, an adorable mother ship, and a 'captain' cake topper.
Snacks included hummus "rockets," caprese skewers, smoked gouda and pesto sandwiches, and arugula and edamame pasta salad.
Hummus "rockets" were dressed up on the outside. Inside, Carlene filled the cups with hummus, crudite, and pretzel sticks.
"What also made the shower so unique was the venue, Catalyst Ranch," Carlene says of the Chicago event space. "It was a perfect place to host the shower with its colorful walls and eclectic, vintage furniture."
"The flowers were put together by Pistil & Vine using pink feminine florals with fun pops of yellow billy balls to look like alien antennas," Carlene says.
Tables were adorned with chalkboard globes and cute signs, like this one stating "prepare for landing."
The mother ship (aka the mom-to-be) and her 'Captain' Lucy got a special seat.
"The mom-to-be had a really good time with her guests decorating the baby's 'space suit,'" Carlene says. "I have seen Lucy wearing those adorable onesies that everyone painted specially for her."
"I really loved the handmade guestbook I made for the baby," Carlene says. "I did a water painting of the night sky to create a star map. Guests were asked to fill the baby's galaxy with their fingerprints as the stars."
Lucy's star map was the perfect parting gift for the mom-to-be.
Guests picked up their favors under a sign that said "blast off."
Favor bags were place by another pennant, saying "we love you to the moon and back."
Yellow and pink alien thank-you notes were the perfect follow-up to the shower.
