The Top Fall 2015 Trends From New York Fashion Week

IMAXTREE

New York Fashion Week has come and gone leaving hundreds of runway looks and limitless street style inspiration in its wake. That's a lot to take in. So before we head to London, we're doing our due diligence right here at home and tackling the top trends for next season.

What can you expect? Designers made a statement with a softer palette, added textural intrigue with little (and lots!) of fringe and shearling, and gave us a worldly way to wear the '70s vibe. But that's just the half of it — scroll for a complete look at New York Fashion Week's top nine trends or jump to the one you want below.

01

The Glamorous Bohemian

This season, the boho vibe draws from the '70s woman and the modern traveler. The shapes and fabrics are luxe — floaty hemlines, allover print, and embellishments galore.

Caped Crusader

It makes sense since the fashion crowd has been avoiding their sleeves for seasons now that designers are bypassing them all together with Fall's caped silhouettes. Some are polished, while others, more statement-making. But regardless of pattern or color, the cut itself was made to catch the eye.

Culottes Are Key

The key cut for pants is decidedly breezy and above the ankle. Culottes make it that much easier to show off a great pair of boots, and Fall's variety come with pleats, finished in leather, or washed in high-octane hues.

On the Fringe

Where we've seen fringed details creeping onto bags and shoes since last season, designers are using it much more heavy-handedly come Fall. Look for it giving skirts a sexy, skin-baring effect, upping the ante on evening wear or adding textural intrigue to our favorite knits.

Gray Matters

This season's color takeover was decidedly gray — and we're not sad about it. The color looks particularly cool in monochromatic schemes — an easy one to pull off head to toe. And while it goes with everything already in your closet, it also helps dial down the sexy vibes of a strapless dress or a fitted sheath, while making sweaters and coats somehow feel even cozier. Now that's versatility.

Shine On

For the girl who loves sparkle, the designers won't let you down this season. With a nod to the shimmer we've typically seen more closely tied to holiday, Fall's versions are skillfully combined and crafted not just in megawatt shine, but in liquid finishes on futuristic-feeling coats or added as metallic pop to an otherwise understated look. All in all, it's an easy way to get dressed up in a flash.

Potent Pastels

Soft pastels are quiet powerhouses in the Fall collections, turning heads on a head-to-toe petal-pink mix or a sea foam ensemble. It's a far cry from your Easter pastels – all grown up and infinitely more statement-making on a furry coat or power suit.

So Plaid

Plaid gets a revamp for Fall, making its return on cool-girl coats, trousers, and polished separates. It's classic with a twist — and in some cases, far more prep-school rebel than schoolgirl uniform.

Give Me Shearling

Furry finishes have their place nearly every Fall, but this season designers added warmth and detail more noticeably with shearling. The luxe finish to leather and suede, the feel is just a touch retro on bomber jackets but entirely decadent on longer overcoats. It's statement-making outerwear for the girl who doesn't wear color or print.
