The 3 Fashion Items That Are Bad For Your Health — And What to Wear Instead

Bad news: skinny jeans aren't the only article of clothing that's bad for your health. According to Naomi Braithwaite, a research fellow at Nottingham Trent University who recently spoke to The Daily Mail, there are some other body-damaging items in your wardrobe that you might want to replace. The main offenders? Jeggings, stilettos, and oversize bags — along with the Kardashian-favored corset, for obvious reasons.

Not to worry, we've already found you some stylish, on-trend alternatives, as well as a bit of outfit inspiration, to get you started on this closet cleanse. Keep scrolling to see them all.

The Culprit: Jeggings

Aside from possibly cutting off circulation like their style sister, skinny jeans, jeggings also prevent air flow around your . . . lady parts, leading to unwanted health issues like yeast infection.

The Solution: Wide-Leg or Flared Pants

Luckily, we're moving on trend-wise, and breathable flares are back — and equally as comfortable as those tight, stretchy things. Find a pair that suits your shape and rock this design instead.

The Culprit: Stilettos

Heels position your foot and body in an unnatural position, causing pain and discomfort — even costume designers advise against buying them.

The Solution: Flats

Or, at the very least, platforms or wedges for more support. They'll give you the height without the strain on your body.

The Culprit: Oversize Bags

Back problems, arm problems — lugging a heavy bag around can definitely cause some major damage. The worst part? You probably don't need half of this stuff!

The Solution: A Small Crossbody

Give your shoulders and arms a break and clean out your purse. Find a little crossbody that fits the necessities and you should be good.
