Michelle Obama is no stranger to electric yellow dresses, and her latest neon number — a custom Schiaparelli haute couture gown — is a straight-up work of art. Attending the American Portrait Gala in Washington DC last night, where she was photographed with Lin-Manuel Miranda, Michelle stunned in the scintillating look, which, according to the Italian fashion house's Creative Director Daniel Roseberry, was all about representing the inner workings of a dress on the exterior.
"The inspiration for the shape originally came from the crinoline, which is often found underneath couture gowns, but the real starting point for the overall look was the color," Roseberry said in a press release. "The acidic tone echoes Elsa Schiaparelli's signature shocking pink, and we also felt that it matched the strength and energy of Mrs. Obama. It was such an honor to make this special gown for her."
