You Don't Have to Like Fashion to Love This Runway Show

How's this for a salute? New York Fashion Week will kick off at Lincoln Center on Sept. 3 with "Salute the Runway," a show which will feature 15 female military servicewomen, according to WWD. The models — make that female veterans and active-duty members — will wear little black dresses in a range of sizes from 2 to 12 designed by such American powerhouses as Donna Karan, Mara Hoffman, and Calvin Klein (above).

Though walking a runway has nothing on the challenge of serving our country, Major Chelinda Rivas of the US Army, who will appear in the show, still had her concerns: "I have never modeled before and to go from boots to heels . . . I am by no means a heels girl. I kept saying to myself, 'Please don't let me fall off this runway.'" Hey, if all else fails, Rivas could always try Calvin Klein's ultracool combat boots on for size.
