The New Kardashian Beauty Cream Lipsticks Prove Matte Lips Are Overrated

Jul 8 2016 - 7:00am

If you've been watching Keeping Up With the Kardashians since it premiered in 2007, you know that the sisters have changed a lot. We don't just mean that their signature looks have evolved [1] (though they have — Kim has definitely given up her Hervé Leger dresses!). Nope, they have been through some serious sh*t, only to come out of it completely unshakeable. Having watched the show for nearly a decade, I know that this adaptability — along with confidence and transparency — is a part of the reason they're still so successful. Millions of us have enjoyed watching the Kardashians play pranks on each other, snap when they're feeling sassy, and even cry as they discuss devastating hardships, including divorce and death.

It makes sense that they would want their beauty line to evolve along with them, which is why they're launching the brand-new Fierce Collection, inspired by their transformation. After all, as they've gotten older, so have their fans, who continue to look to them for inspiration. Like Kim, many of us have outgrown the body-con-wearing stage of our lives. We also want more luxurious beauty products in packaging worthy of flaunting on a vanity [2]. But if there's one thing that will never change, it's my love of shopping for beauty products on a budget. The formulas are often just as good (if not better) than their department store counterparts, and even the sisters' go-to makeup artist agrees [3].

The components of the Fierce Collection exemplify that fact. The formulas are fantastic (just wait until you see the lipsticks and highlighters!) and the complexion products celebrate your skin instead of completely hiding it. But I'm especially fond of the packaging. It's evolved from the youthful white cases [4] to a more sophisticated black and gold color palette. Read on to see the covetable products for yourself, then shop the Fierce Collection on KBeauty.com [5] and in Ulta stores this August. Can't wait? Try on the new shades virtually using the YouCam Makeup App [6].

Kardashian Beauty Lip Slayer Lipstick

The sisters' first attempt at a bullet lipstick was a highly successful one. Despite the moisturizing properties in this supercreamy formula, it feels surprisingly lightweight on the lips. Each shade glides over your pout like a balm would, delivering intensely pigmented color. The nine-hue assortment offers a pleasant range of traditional shades, including bright coral "Damn Gina," rose-pink "Show Up," and vampy red "Phoenix." I'm particularly fond of layering honey-beige "Goals" on top of "Bye Felicia" (a '90s-esque brown mauve), which results in a grungy, three-dimensional look.

Kardashian Beauty No Apologies Face Kit

These incredible palettes are packed with eight shadows, a blush, and an illuminating powder. The shadows boast the creamy, rich formula that they're known for, and the blushes provide the same impressive color payoff. However, the true stars of these compacts are the highlighters. One swipe reveals a finely milled shimmer with a hyperluminous glow that you'd expect from a high-end brand, but each Face Kit (with all those products!) is only $17. Believe me when I say it's worth stocking up on all three. If your end goal is to copy the sisters' signature look as closely as possible, though, go for Werk It. It's stuffed with those smoky bronze tones that they favor!

Kardashian Beauty Kontour Kase

Though the Kardashian family may have become synonymous with contouring, these sets are on the subtle side of sculpting. Each compact contains a trio of creams that can be used to chisel, correct imperfections, and highlight. There's no shimmer in any of the shades, so the finished result looks quite natural.

Kardashian Beauty No Apologies Liquid Makeup

This long-lasting, oil-free liquid foundation feels dewy, not heavy on skin. You can build up your layers for full coverage, but I've been smoothing on a sheer layer each morning to just even out my complexion and have been quite happy with the results. There are undetectable light-refracting pigments in each bottle that blur imperfections, so my enlarged pores are practically invisible after each application.

Kardashian Beauty No Apologies Koncealer

Many drugstore concealers can feel dry or chalky, but this one is quite moisturizing. This means that those crepey fine lines around your eyes won't be exacerbated. Instead, they'll be nourished while your dark circles are vanquished.
