J.K. Rowling nabbed the 42nd spot on the Forbes Celebrity 100 list this year, and it's easy to see why. In addition to turning Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts into global entertainment phenomenons, the 53-year-old writer is one of the bestselling authors of all time and one of the richest. But just how rich are we talking?

Given how private J.K. is, her net worth is actually top secret. However, The New York Times estimates that it's at least $1.2 billion. Online bookstore Wordery also recently released a report breaking down her earnings and revealed that she is currently the world's highest paid author (that's right — world's). In 2017, J.K. earned $95 million, which breaks down to $260,274 a day and $181 per minute.
