In a large skillet set over medium heat, cook bacon pieces for about 3 minutes, or until they are browned slightly and the fat has been rendered. Add ground beef and season with salt and pepper. Cook an additional 5 minutes or until the meat is browned and cooked through.
Use a spoon to remove excess fat, but leave a little bit in the dish so the meat stays moist. Add garlic, onions, pasta sauce, crushed tomato, water, red chili flakes, and oregano. Stir the mixture and then bring the sauce to a simmer. Add lasagna noodles and cover completely with the sauce. Let cook for 15 minutes or until the noodles are soft.
Add ricotta to the lasagna and stir gently to mix into the sauce. Lay slices of mozzarella on top and sprinkle with basil. Let sit for 5 more minutes or until the cheese is melted. Serve immediately.
