Not Over It: Why Is TikTok So Damn Addicting? We Asked an Expert

We've all been there: you open up TikTok for a quick fix and suddenly three hours have gone by. During the pandemic, we let ourselves spend even more time in the TikTok rabbit hole as a means to escape into a world of silly dances, controversial recipes, and general distraction. But what is it about TikTok that makes it seem even more addicting than other social media distractions (besides that magical algorithm)? And is our attention span going to be broken forever? In this week's episode of Not Over It, we speak with sociologist Julie M. Albright, PhD, who specializes in the psychology of interactive media, to ask her all of our questions about what makes TikTok so hard to look away from, and whether it's rotting our brains.
