Marvel is steadily building a TV empire over at Netflix, but will its latest series get a shot at a second season? No news has been announced about whether Iron Fist [1] will return for season two, but there are some things we can take into consideration. First, let's look at Marvel's history with Netflix.
- Daredevil premiered on April 10, 2015. Season one earned a 98 percent on Rotten Tomatoes [2], and Netflix announced that it was renewing the show [3] on April 21.
- The next Marvel series to debut was Jessica Jones, which came out on Nov. 20, 2015. Rotten Tomatoes scored it at 93 percent [4], and Netflix announced its renewal [5] for season two on Jan. 17, 2016.
- Luke Cage hit Netflix on Sep. 30, 2016 and earned a 96 percent on Rotten Tomatoes [6]. Several months later on Dec. 4, Netflix confirmed that a second season was on the way [7].
Every Marvel/Netflix collaboration so far has scored extremely high with critics. Iron Fist, on the other hand, is currently sitting on Rotten Tomatoes with a score of 19 percent [8]. Nineteen percent. It's actually shocking to see a score so low, and it doesn't bode well for a series that has already been overshadowed by a less-than-diverse casting decision [9]. In fact, at this point I'd say it's likely that Marvel could throw in the towel and limit Iron Fist's future appearances to The Defenders [10].
