Jason Statham Fights a 75-Foot Shark in His New Movie, and I Honestly Can't Wait to See It

How many times has Jason Statham saved the world? Admittedly, that's a question for someone who has a lot more time on their hands than I do. And whatever that number ends up being, it looks like we have another addition to the list: his role as expert deep-sea rescue diver Jonas Taylor in The Meg, a sci-fi thriller about an undersea observation program attacked by a prehistoric, 75-foot-long shark known as the Megalodon.

Naturally, Jonas is the only one with Megalodon experience — "How?" you might be wondering. "Isn't this a shark that was previously thought to be extinct for hundreds of years?" I honestly don't know, but now is not the time to be nitpicky! — so he dives into the situation (literally) to risk his life to save that of the crew, who are trapped at the bottom of the Pacific.

If that plot isn't enough to get you excited about going swimming in open water this Summer, I don't know what is. The Meg also stars Li Bingbing, Ruby Rose, and Rainn Wilson, and it swims its way into theaters on Aug. 10. It looks absolutely insane, and I can honestly say I can't wait to see it.
