If there is one thing that Marvel has perfected over the last 23 films, it's their postcredits scenes [1]. Whether they're inside jokes that don't actually tie into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or earth-shattering scenes that leave us metaphorically holding our breath until the next release, it's safe to say that fans are rarely disappointed when they stick around after the film's credits have rolled by. That's why fans should definitely keep their keisters parked after Spider-Man: Far From Home [2] runs through — there are two postcredits scenes when the movie ends [3], and they're absolutely vital watching for every Marvel fan.
The two postcredits scenes in Far From Home (technically the first is a midcredits scene, and the second is truly a postcredits sequence) twist the MCU on its head for two completely different reasons. The first scene happens relatively quickly, leaving the audience in my screening full of laughter and shouting out cries of genuine excitement. The second alludes to some mega changes in the MCU that have our Peter Tingles going off. Keep reading for explanations on what happens in each scene, as well as what they mean for the future of the franchise.

What Happens in Spider-Man: Far From Home's Midscredits Scene?
The first scene takes place immediately after the film ends, which is in the middle of Peter and MJ's web-slinging ride through Manhattan. Mary Jane is rightfully screaming for her life as Peter gleefully slings her around the city before they touch down on the sidewalk in front of Madison Square Garden because Peter has to get going. Before the two part, a news broadcast lights up the digital billboard behind them with breaking news. The reporter reveals that a local newspaper has picked up a story about Spider-Man and the broadcast switches to the one and only John Jonah Jameson of the Daily Bugle, played by JK Simmons. (Cue massive cheers from fans, because this is all we've ever wanted.)
The video reveals that before his death, Mysterio sent out a recording putting the blame for the drone attacks in London on Spider-Man, with the video showing the moment Peter commands EDITH to "kill them all," which viewers are unaware is actually a command to kill the drones poised to attack London per Mysterio's plans. Mysterio then reveals that Spider-Man is really Peter Parker, who Jameson conveniently has a school photo of ready for all to get a good look at his face. Peter cries out in horror as MJ looks on in shock.
In case you're wondering, Peter's identity is rarely revealed to those outside his circle of close friends (except for his voluntary unmasking during the Civil War and Secret Empire storylines), so this is a different route for Marvel to take with this iteration! It's somewhat reminiscent of Tony Stark's reveal in Iron Man, except Tony did that willingly. Plus, Peter's been exposed AND framed, which means it'll be doubly impossible for him to work in the Spidey suit in the near future.
Not only will he be facing the legal ramifications of Msyterio framing him for attacking the world with Tony's drones (which will definitely be a point of contention since Tony's tech has long been a point of issue for the government in the MCU), but with his identity revealed, the people around him are instantly in danger. We can't imagine he's going to be having an easy time in the future.
What Happens in Spider-Man: Far From Home's Postcredits Scene?
The second postcredits scene is much shorter, but it packs quite a shock. The scene reveals that the Maria Hill and Nick Fury we'd been watching throughout FFH are actually Skrulls! Specifically, the pair are really Talos and his wife [5], who we last see in Captain Marvel [6]. The two call Fury, who appears to be relaxing beachside, and explain how things went particularly awry while they were covering for the two former SHIELD agents.
When Fury hangs up, he stands up from his lawn chair as the camera pans further away and reveals that he's really in the hanger of a huge ship and all around him are other Skrulls. "Back to work," he calls out as he walks further into the ship, revealing the view outside the ship's windows, making it suddenly clear that he's been hanging out in space rather than on Earth.
This is big, people. First and foremost, we have to wonder how long Nick and Maria have been using the Skrulls to cover for them. They were among the others snapped in Infinity War and were last seen at Tony's funeral. Since FFH takes place pretty soon after Endgame, that means the two were pretty quickly taken onboard the Skrull ship. And since this all takes place decades after Captain Marvel, this means Fury and the Skrulls have been in contact for a long time. Why didn't Fury return to Earth? What is he doing with the Skrulls, and presumably, Carol Danvers? What "work" are they doing that's more important than the ruckus Mysterio was causing on Earth?
We have so many questions, but we have a feeling that this scene in particular sets us up for the cosmic adventures Marvel will be taking in Phase Four [7] of the films. Not only are we diving into the Eternals and catching up with the Guardians of the Galaxy, but we still have to find out what Captain Marvel has been up to this whole time. Looks like Phase Four has a lot of ground to cover, and FFH's postcredit scene is barely the tip of the iceberg.
