It has become a tradition for J.K. Rowling to apologize for killing off a character in Harry Potter on the anniversary of the Battle of Hogwarts. In the past Rowling has apologized for the deaths of Severus Snape, Fred Weasley, and Remus Lupin. This year, the author is saying sorry for killing off another one of Harry's closet allies.

It's that anniversary again. This year, I apologise for killing someone who didn't die during the #BattleofHogwarts, but who laid down his life to save the people who'd win it. I refer, of course, to Dobby the house elf.

If you remember, Dobby was killed by Bellatrix Lestrange while trying to save Harry and the rest of his friends in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. It was one of the most heartbreaking moments in the entire series! Harry Potter fans received Rowling's apology with open arms; some even said they've "waited years" for it.
