The Cast of Netflix's Wednesday Is Spookily Accurate

Mar 21 2022 - 3:35pm

When we first heard in February 2021 that Netflix was partnering with Tim Burton [1] for a new Addams Family [2] series titled "Wednesday [3]," we were thrilled. Then things got even more exciting when we learned that "The Babysitter: Killer Queen [4]"'s Jenna Ortega had been cast in the titular role. Seeing as she's already proven her supernatural chops with the Netflix horror film, she seems like the perfect choice for the deadpan and macabre Wednesday Addams [5].

Back in September, Netflix announced a handful of new stars had joined the cast. While "Game of Thrones" alum Gwendoline Christie has secured a series regular role, there are a handful of newcomers joining the cast as the rest of the Addams family, including Issac Ordonez as Pugsley Addams, Victor Dorobantu as Thing, and George Burcea as Lurch. Other newly announced cast members include Tommie Earl Jenkins as Mayor Walker, Iman Marson as Lucas Walker, William Houston as Joseph Crackstone, Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo as Deputy Santiago, Oliver Watson as Kent, Calum Ross as Rowan, and Johnna Dias Watson as Divina. And most recently, it was announced the Christina Ricci [6] is returning to the franchise.

The young-adult series is set to follow Wednesday as she studies at the mysterious Nevermore Academy. As if dealing with a new school and emerging psychic abilities isn't already tough, Wednesday also has to save the local town while trying to unravel the mystery her parents became involved in 25 years earlier. Directed by Burton and created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar [7], we're eagerly counting down the days until the eight-episode series graces our screens. Until then, you can check out the rest of "Wednesday"'s cast, including who will play the iconic Morticia [8] and Gomez Addams.

Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams

Witty, smart, and still a little bit macabre, the new series will see Wednesday as she tries to master her psychic abilities while attending Nevermore Academy. Ortega, who previously starred in "The Babysitter: Killer Queen," "You," and "Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous," will portray the Addams's eldest daughter [10].

Gwendoline Christie as Larissa Weems

The "Game of Thrones" alum will play the principal of Wednesday's new school and the former school rival of Morticia Addams.

Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams

When not being fawned over by husband Gomez, Morticia can be found tending to her roses and acting as the glue that keeps her family together. Zeta-Jones, best known for her roles in "Chicago" and "The Mask of Zorro," is set to take on the role previously played by Carolyn Jones on 1964's "The Addams Family," Anjelica Huston in 1991's "The Addams Family" and 1993's "Addams Family Values [11]," and Charlize Theron [12] in the 2019 animated film "The Addams Family."

Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams

The debonair head of the Addams household, Gomez loves his wife, his family, and things most people would consider odd. Previously portrayed by John Astin on the 1964 series, Raul Julia in the 1991 and 1993 films, and Oscar Isaac in the 2019 animated version, Guzmán will take over the role [13] on the new Netflix series.

Hunter Doohan as Tyler Galpin

The "Truth Be Told" star will play Tyler Galpin, who is the son of the local sheriff. Despite not being a student at Nevermore Academy, he manages to form a friendship with Wednesday.

Georgie Farmer as Ajax Petropolus

Unlike Medusa, who was ready to turn a man to stone at any moment, Ajax is a shy gorgon student at Nevermore Academy. This isn't Farmer's first time dealing with a mysterious school, as he's best known for his role as Jake Crossley on "The Evermoor Chronicles."

Moosa Mostafa as Eugene Otinger

Eugene, the quirky president of Nevermore Academy's beekeeping club, will be Mostafa's largest role to date, after being part of St. Bernadette's class in 2018's "Nativity Rocks!"

Emma Myers as Enid Sinclair

Where Wednesday is dark and dreary, Enid is light and sunny. A member of a pack of San Francisco werewolves, Wednesday's roommate is ready to brighten up her life. Myers's previous roles include BeeBee Jordan in "A Taste of Christmas," Marie Cody in "Girl in the Basement," and Angie Blackburn in "Southern Gospel."

Naomi J. Ogawa as Yoko Tanaka

The "Skylines" star will play one of "the cool kids" at Nevermore Academy. Described as "a vampire with Harajuku-inspired Goth flair," it'll be interesting to see the fashions she wears on screen.

Joy Sunday as Bianca Barclay

One of the most popular students at Nevermore, Bianca is a siren. The only question is: did she use her powers of persuasion to win the admiration of the other students? Sunday is best known for her roles as Abina on "MacGyver," Ria on "Yas Kween," Cynthia in "Bad Hair," and Celia in "The Beta Test."

Percy Hynes White as Xavier Thorpe

Thanks to his celebrity psychic father, Xavier wants for nothing. Although it's unclear whether he shares the same powers as his father, he is described as "charismatic and supernaturally artistic." This role is fitting for White, who previously played a boy with telekinetic powers on "The Gifted."

Thora Birch as Tamara Novak

While the students and staff of Nevermore are supernaturally gifted in some way or another, Tamara is an exception as the only "normie." The dorm mother for Wednesday and her friends, she has a passion for plants. It's nice to see Birch returning to her spooky roots after her iconic role as Dani Dennison in 1993's "Hocus Pocus [14]."

Riki Lindhome as Dr. Valerie Kinbott

As one of Jericho's local therapists, Dr. Valerie Kinbott takes on Wednesday as one of her new patients. We're already envisioning their relationship being comedic relief as Lindhome is one half of comedy music duo Garfunkel and Oates and has had roles on "Gilmore Girls [15]" and "The Big Bang Theory" and in "Knives Out."

Jamie McShane as Sheriff Donovan Galpin

Sherriff Donovan is not a fan of Nevermore Academy, and he's even less of a fan of former student Gomez Addams. As a longtime Jericho resident, he will stop at nothing to see his vendetta against the school through. McShane's casting might give "Wednesday" its edge as he gravitates toward dramatic roles like Cameron Hayes on "Sons of Anarchy [16]," Sergeant Terry Hill on "Southland," and Eric O'Bannon on "Bloodline."

Christina Ricci

Ricci — who famously starred as the titular Wednesday in the 1991 Barry Sonnenfeld-directed "The Addams Family" — has joined the cast, though her role is being kept under wraps. According to Deadline [17], Ricci will play a whole new character and not an older version of Wednesday.
