We know everyone has Spring '18 on their minds thanks to the Fashion Week runways [1], but we're drawing our focus back to Fall. Specifically, what to wear for this season [2]. Luckily, we have our Fall '17 trend report handy [3] and plenty of street style [4] looks to draw inspiration from.
If you've done your homework, then you know there are several prints taking over the fashion scene right now. In case you need a refresher, we rounded up the top five patterns to wear with styling tips to help you pull off the trends. There's even a little shopping here, too, so you can truly be a trendsetter come Fall.
Check Mate
This Fall, we're borrowing from the boys and doing it better. The runways were full of checkered suiting and tailored pants [6] that were a nod to menswear staples, but appropriate for those who want to pair the look with a more feminine top or pants. This street style star mastered the trend in one take.
If you want a little color in your outfit, consider layering two checked prints together. Dani Stahl made sure her blazer and trousers came in two contrasting plaids for a not-so-matchy-matchy look.

Fall Florals
We know, florals are always in, but this season, it's the darker prints that are calling your name. Think floral hues in burgundy, brown, black, and navy. The trick to making the print feel fresh is wearing it from head to toe like fashion influencer Jennifer Grace.
Thassia Naves pulled an easy styling hack by matching her boots to one of the colors in her floral dress.

Animal Prints
You can credit Gucci's Fall 2017 runway [15] for bringing the animal motif trend [16] to life. You'll find fashion girls rocking everything from stylish cat sweaters (they do exist) to tiger-embroidered bomber jackets. If this trend seems daunting to try, go with a simple leopard-printed shoe or bag to start.
Michelle Jen Yeoh took on the Gucci cat graphic by pairing it with a denim skirt and black booties.
Gucci Intarsia Wool Sweater

Polka Dots
Polka dots popped up on the Fall '17 runways like Zimmermann, which means the print is coming back. Take this classic design and pair it with something unexpected such as stripes and florals. Print blocking is the trick to making any creation feel new — just ask street style star Caro Daur.
If you don't own anything with polka dots, try out the pattern first with an accessory like a scarf.
