It looks like the BAFTAs red carpet is going to be a whole lot darker in 2018. According to the BBC [1], attendees have received a letter urging them to wear black to the ceremony, to "follow suit from our sisters who attended the Golden Globes [2]." The initiative, which is thought to have already been approved by many guests, is in support of the Time's Up movement [3], which was launched on Jan. 1 by a group of 300 women to "fight systemic sexual harassment in Hollywood and in blue-collar workplaces nationwide."
Over the past few weeks, many members of the entertainment industry have been showing their support for the cause. Pins were worn at the SAG awards [4], a big statement was made at the Grammys [5], and a few men have also discreetly been supporting women [6] on the red carpet. While we await the patriarchy-smashing red carpet, let's take a look back at some of the best black ensembles from the past BAFTAs.
