Women Wearing Black on the BAFTA Red Carpet
We Can Expect Another Sea of Black Dresses at the BAFTA Awards
It looks like the BAFTAs red carpet is going to be a whole lot darker in 2018. According to the BBC, attendees have received a letter urging them to wear black to the ceremony, to "follow suit from our sisters who attended the Golden Globes." The initiative, which is thought to have already been approved by many guests, is in support of the Time's Up movement, which was launched on Jan. 1 by a group of 300 women to "fight systemic sexual harassment in Hollywood and in blue-collar workplaces nationwide."
Over the past few weeks, many members of the entertainment industry have been showing their support for the cause. Pins were worn at the SAG awards, a big statement was made at the Grammys, and a few men have also discreetly been supporting women on the red carpet. While we await the patriarchy-smashing red carpet, let's take a look back at some of the best black ensembles from the past BAFTAs.
