Taylor Swift's music video for "You Need to Calm Down" is chock-full of eye candy. There's the dizzying number of celebrity cameos (including an almost-unrecognizable Adam Lambert), the bounty of colorful beauty looks, and of course the loads of Easter eggs scattered throughout the full three-and-a-half minutes. But for me, the thing that stood out the most in this video (other than its important messages of kindness, civility, and acceptance regardless of gender and sexual orientation) were the killer, crystal-studded sunglasses Swift wears in the beginning of the video as she stomps out of her trailer and floats around in an above-ground pool.
The sunglasses in question are Rad + Refined Crystal Embellished Sunglasses, which Instagram user @taylorswiftstyled graciously brought to the world's attention mere minutes after the video dropped. After adding those to my online cart, I immediately began looking for more embellished sunglasses that I could add to my collection.
See, I've been searching for a good pair of crystal- or pearl-studded sunglasses for a while now. It all started when a friend of mine began wearing a pearl sunglasses chain on her round metal frames. I thought it was the chicest thing I'd ever seen. Pearls or crystals decorating the actual frame of a pair of sunglasses? Well, that's just as chic and sparkly. And while Swift's blue-tinted frames are a whole lot of fun, they're honestly not something I will wear every day. That's why I searched for even more options that can allow me to embrace my inner magpie without them clashing with my more subdued daily wardrobe. Keep reading to see and shop the most stylish ones I could find, whether it's just a hint of glitz you're after or full-on crystal-studded lenses à la our girl T-Swift.
The Rad + Refined Crystal Embellished Sunglasses ($68) that Swift wears in "You Need to Calm Down" are as twinkly as they are attention grabbing.
I'm drooling over these Fendi Ribbons and Pearls Sunglasses ($513, originally $540), which are a subtle take on the embellished sunglasses trend.
The Fendi Crystal Round Sunglasses ($535) substitute crystals for pearls but feature the same unique placement of the stones.
The rosy lenses of the Topshop Diamante Round Sunglasses ($40, originally $55) keep the overall vibe of these sunglasses soft and ultrafeminine.
Prefer square frames? The Topshop Diamante Square Sunglasses ($40, originally $55) include various-sized stones surrounding lenses that are the exact color of champagne.
Gucci dropped a ton of embellished sunglasses this season, but it's these — the Gucci Cat Eye Sunglasses With Stars ($1,085) — that caught my eye. They feature just the right amount of shine, while the clear frames remind of the jelly sandals I owned in the late '90s/early 2000s but in a much cooler way.
A girl can dream, right? These Chanel Round Sunglasses ($640), which include rows of delicate pearls along the top of the circular frames, are at the top of my wish list this Summer.
It's no surprise that the Miu Miu Round-Frame Embellished Sunglasses ($490) are incredibly cute and quirky at the same time. What is surprising, however, is the flattering cat-eye effect created by the two large stones at the top corners of the frames.
The white cup-crystals on the Rad + Refined Rhinestone Round Sunglasses ($63) could look a bit kitschy surrounding colored sunglasses. The fact the lenses are bronze give these fun sunglasses a touch of sophistication.
The Rad + Refined Crystal Embellished Cat Eye Sunglasses ($55) give me Breakfast at Tiffany's meets Katy Perry, and I'm very much OK with that.
