In Fitness and in Health — Gear to Power Your Goals For 2019

Jan 10 2019 - 12:25pm

January is the month of resets, do-overs, and fresh starts. And all those are better with new gear! Here are our picks to keep the start of your new year fresh and fun.

Undo Magazine

"Everything is becoming digital, but there's nothing I love more than a quality magazine. Undo [1] ($20) focuses on helping you become better from the inside out. I love that Undo covers everything from conversations with the best athletes in the world, how to eat healthy on a budget, and local fitness events you can attend." — Tamara Pridgett, assistant editor, Fitness

Puma CB 7/8 Women's Tights

"No matter how many pairs of leggings I have, I always need more. These days I am rocking the CB 7/8 tights [2] ($45, regularly $55) from Puma. They're colorful without being over the top — I'm typically a black tights gal. These leggings are high waisted, which makes them very comfortable for all kinds of workouts, and the 7/8 length is perfect for my 5'4" frame." — — Susi May, content director, Fitness

Orgain Plant-Based Protein Bar

"Orgain has these new vegan protein bars [3] ($2.50) and I'm in love! Made with just a few simple ingredients — organic dates, peanut flour, almond butter, chia protein, almonds, and sea salt — they're similar to RXBARs [4] offering 12 grams of protein for just 220 calories. I love all the flavors including chocolate almond sea salt, chocolate peanut putter, and blueberry almond. They're thick and chewy, and this chocolate flavor makes me feel like I'm eating a brownie!" — Jenny Sugar, staff writer, Fitness

Lunya Washable Silk Sleep Mask

"I've never been into sleep masks [5], that is, until I came across the Washable Silk Sleep Mask [6] ($48) by Lunya. This mask blocks out all light, and I swear it's really improved my sleep. I also love that the band doesn't give me a headache or leave dents in my hair and my face. If you're really into improving your sleep, be sure to check out the line's collection of silk pajamas." — TP

Kopari Coconut Deo

"I have been trying to switch from an aluminum-based antiperspirant and deodorant to a natural deodorant for months now, but I haven't been able to find a brand that could withstand my workouts and everyday stress sweat. That is, until I found Kopari Coconut Deo [7] ($14). Not only does it smell lovely (like coconuts but not too overwhelmingly so), it keeps me smelling fresh no matter how much I sweat. Plus, the texture is excellent for layering on: not too watery or greasy. Definitely my new go-to deo." — Christina Stiehl, editor, Fitness

Adidas Warp Knit Tight

"I've been a fan of the warp knit collection since it launched, and these Warp Knit Tights [8] ($61) are easily one of my favorite pairs of leggings. The fit is like a second layer of skin but still breathable. There's no extra, saggy fabric to be found, and they are extremely soft." — TP

Nike Odyssey React Shield Water-Repellent Running Shoe

"I'm always searching for quality running shoes, and the Nike Odyssey React Shield Sneaker [9] ($130) is just that. First, it's water-repellent, which is perfect for running in lackluster conditions. Second, it's super lightweight but supportive, which can be hard to find. This shoe also has reflective details for those early-morning and late-night runs. It's definitely a must have." — TP

Hu Chocolate

"I had to hide this Hu Cashew Butter + Vanilla Bean Chocolate Bar [10] (4-pack for $25) from my husband. These rich dark chocolate squares filled with creamy vanilla cashew butter are vegan and made with coconut sugar, but they taste so decadent that upon my first bite, I closed my eyes and my whole body smiled. I was immediately transformed into a state of sweet bliss. The other flavors are equally amazing including Almond Butter + Puffed Quinoa, Crunchy Banana, and they also make Chocolate-Covered Vanilla Bean Cashews [11] ($10), which I also had to hide. With self-care and doing things that make me happy being one of my goals for 2019, eating chocolate is obviously a must!" — JS

Hex Anti-Stink Spray

"I work out a fair bit in man-made fabrics that are great for wicking, but unfortunately these technical fabrics sometimes hold on to the stink. The Anti-Stink spray by Hex [12] ($10) has come to my rescue many times. My favorite gym shoes, which my dog likes to sleep on, have been resurrected by this miracle spray. I now keep this in my laundry room and just spray it on anything that seems a little too stinky. And it works!" — SM

Free Country Women's Free 2 Hang Out Jogger Pants

"My current cozy pants obsession is Free Country's Free 2 Hang Out Luxe Fleece Jogger Pants [13] (on sale for $30). I have been wearing them throughout the holiday break as my go-to lounge pants. They are also very comfortable for a low-intensity workout and have a great amount of stretch. I also recommend them for travel for those who are always cold on planes." — Genevieve Farrell Roston, video producer, Fitness

Ryka Dominion Walking Shoe

"These shoes were made for walking, and I like they way the feel. The insoles of the Dominion Walking Shoe [14] ($85) are made of memory foam, and my feet appreciate the cushioning effect. These sneakers are lightweight, with soft uppers that don't bother my bunion. The soles provide traction, which is a must on slick post-rain stairs. Plus, they're cute." — SM

Koral Forte Infinity Sports Bra + Frame Infinity Leggings

"I recently had the opportunity to take Equinox's crazy-intense Precision Running [15] class and try out Koral's Frame Infinity leggings [16] ($130) and Forte Infinity Sports Bra [17] ($130.) I usually reserve such luxe activewear for non-sweaty activities, so I was so surprised by how amazing this outfit felt during 60 minutes of running! I normally run in shorts or capris and was impressed by how cool I felt in the full-length leggings thanks to Koral's infinity fabric and strategically placed mesh panels." — GFR

Props Athletics Staple Gloves

"I've become an avid rower thanks to the amazing workouts at LIT Method [18]. While I love the effects of the workout — my body has never been stronger or more toned — the effects on my hands was a different story. I started to get major blisters on my palms. I was so excited to discover Props Athletics Staple Gloves [19] ($36.) These half-fingered gloves have a silicon palm for enhanced grip and Coolmax® yarn to absorb sweat and are thick enough that I no longer develop blisters when I frequently row. I also love that they are machine washable and are great to use to wick sweat away from my frequently dripping forehead." - GFR
