Aside from it toning the glutes and thighs and working your cardiovascular system, a 150-pound woman burns 465 calories [3] in just one hour of hiking uphill. And Lea and her friend Stephanie Levinson hiked for eight miles, which probably took them at least two and a half hours — that's over 1,160 calories. And that doesn't count hiking back down!
