Barber Foods recalled [1] around 1.7 million pounds of frozen, raw chicken products packaged between February 2015 and May 2015 after the USDA linked six salmonella cases to its products [2]. Barber Foods, Western Family, Meijer, and Loblaw's (generic label) are the affected labels, and the products range from Italian-style chicken tenders to cordon bleu.
Check the complete list of products [3] (or view the labels [4]). If you do have a contaminated product in your freezer, the USDA recommends throwing it out immediately or returning the product to wherever it was purchased for a full refund.
Because salmonella is one of the most common bacterial foodborne illnesses, the USDA also reminds consumers to fully cook chicken to an internal temperature of 165°F and to thoroughly wash any utensils, knives, and cutting boards that come in contact with raw poultry to avoid cross-contamination.
