Barber Foods recalled around 1.7 million pounds of frozen, raw chicken products packaged between February 2015 and May 2015 after the USDA linked six salmonella cases to its products. Barber Foods, Western Family, Meijer, and Loblaw's (generic label) are the affected labels, and the products range from Italian-style chicken tenders to cordon bleu.
Check the complete list of products (or view the labels). If you do have a contaminated product in your freezer, the USDA recommends throwing it out immediately or returning the product to wherever it was purchased for a full refund.
Because salmonella is one of the most common bacterial foodborne illnesses, the USDA also reminds consumers to fully cook chicken to an internal temperature of 165°F and to thoroughly wash any utensils, knives, and cutting boards that come in contact with raw poultry to avoid cross-contamination.
