While Donald Trump was on vacation [1] at his golf club in New Jersey in late August, big changes were happening at the White House. With round-the-clock work, several of the presidential abode's most public spaces were given a facelift in just two weeks. We knew the Trumps planned a design overhaul [2] from the get-go, and we got a peek at the recent renovation in process [3], but now we're finally seeing the changes that were made. It turns out they're not half bad. Apparently, most of the $3.4 million of improvements were approved before Obama left office, but, according to government records, the Trump administration has spent $1.75 million on furniture for the White House alone [4]! Oval Office

After being elected, Trump immediately swapped in a sunburst carpet [5], gold brocade sofas, and dramatic gold drapes – but the latest change is much more delicate: soft gray patterned walls. It replaces the yellow striped wallpaper that previously hung in the Oval Office.

Roosevelt Room

An updated gray and white carpet in the Roosevelt room echoes the vibe of the new wall treatment in the Oval Office.

West Wing Lobby

The soothing new carpet design is continued in the West Wing Lobby.

Exterior

The interior design wasn't the only thing updated. The White House's exterior was touched up with fresh paint, the HVAC system was replaced, a cracked stairway mended, and the building's IT system was upgraded.
