2-Year-Old Girl With Spina Bifida Learned to Walk to "Baby Shark" Song

As a parent, it's a lot of fun to groan any time you hear someone else playing the boppy sounds of "Baby Shark," but it might be time for us to start appreciating all of the positives it can offer families, too. In St. Petersburg, FL, there's one family in particular who are likely singing its praises.

Two-year-old Harper Comparin has spina bifida, which hinders her movement, but she learned to walk to the tune of "Baby Shark," ABC reported.

After a series of surgeries and trips to the hospital, the young toddler was understandably weary of future hospital visits, so Dr. Michelle Schultz at Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg had to get creative. "That was a big barrier we really had to cross at first, to regain her trust," Dr. Schultz told ABC.

So what helped? You guessed it. The "Baby Shark" song. "I like the tune of that song," said Dr. Schultz. "I use it like a metronome. I want her to walk to that beat. Doo doo doo! Pick up her speed, walk faster." But in addition to using it to cue Harper's steps, the song itself also puts her in a positive mood during her rehabilitation. Now, she loves playing and is as strong as ever!
