Today, Calvin Klein officially unveiled Rooney Mara as the face of its newest fragrance, Downtown — but the brand got an early start celebrating the news last night. Despite the rain, stars including Rooney, Carey Mulligan, Nicole Kidman, and Skyfall's Naomie Harris stopped by Calvin Klein's beachside bash at the Cannes Film Festival yesterday evening.
Rooney marked the new partnership alongside Francisco Costa, the creative director of Calvin Klein Collection, at the party, which was also hosted by Belvedere and IWC. Inside the dimly lit and intimate soiree, she chatted with producer Harvey Weinstein, while Carey mingled by the DJ booth before making an early departure. Nicole also made time in her Cannes schedule to attend. All three actresses are busy working this week. Carey's The Great Gatsby premiered on opening night; Rooney's latest film, Ain't Them Bodies Saints, will also debut later this week; and Nicole is serving as a member of the film festival's official jury.
Day one proved to be a stylish start for the 2013 Cannes Film Festival. The cast of The Great Gatsby kicked off the glamorous Cannes Film Festival at their premiere in France tonight — and they didn't let a little rain stop them! They stayed dry from the drizzle, which really just added to the drama of the event, with oversize umbrellas. And while many stars held onto their own, others got a little help from handlers decked out in black-tie.
The Cannes Film Festival kicked off in the South of France, and so many leading ladies (and gents) have already made their way over to the Riviera for this glamorous affair. Leonardo DiCaprio suited up to join his The Great Gatsby leading lady, Carey Mulligan, to kick off the Cannes Film Festival with a glamorous photocall for their film today. Leo and Balenciaga-clad Carey were joined by the rest of their costars, Isla Fisher, Tobey Maguire, Joel Edgerton, as well as the film's director, Baz Luhrmann, as the annual festival got under way in the South of France. It was a busy day for the Gatsby crew, who also participated in a press conference to discuss the film that opened in the US last Friday. Gatsby will make its European premiere tonight in Cannes. The Great Gatsby boasted impressive numbers in its first week, raking in $51.1 million from its US debut.
Leo and his longtime friend Tobey Maguire were reunited at the festival after pairing up earlier this week in NYC. Tobey showed his support at Leonardo's Christie's auction, which raised $35 million to benefit environmental and wildlife conservation efforts, a cause that is backed by the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation.
