What It's Really Like on the Met Gala Red Carpet

Our position on the red carpet at last night's Met Gala afforded the chance to observe what really takes place on the storied red carpet!

Our position on the red carpet at last night's Met Gala afforded the chance to observe what really takes place on the storied red carpet! It was model, designer, and actor madness as guests headed in to celebrate the opening of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute exhibit Punk: Chaos to Couture.

Veteran attendees Gisele Bündchen and her husband, Tom Brady, shared a run-in with first-timer Kim Kardashian on the carpet, while a Valentino-clad Gwyneth Paltrow caught up with her good friend Jessica Seinfeld. Kristen Stewart wasn't bothered by the stars like Sarah Jessica Parker and Jessica Biel mingling outside the Metropolitan Museum of Art, though her pal Jennifer Lawrence did do a bit of socializing with her fellow Dior spokesperson Marion Cotillard.

Tonight's Met Gala was all about punk, and many of Hollywood's sweetest celebrities jumped at the chance to amp up the edge on the red carpet. While we expected stars like Miley Cyrus and Katy Perry to embrace their rock chick roots, seeing celebrities like Anne Hathaway, Taylor Swift, and Allison Williams go for more daring ensembles was fun to watch play out at the bash. Anne went platinum blond, Dakota Fanning showed off serious skin, Allison got into a goth mood, and Ginnifer Goodwin sported dramatic eye makeup for the night. Click through to see these stars and many more good girls get into the punk spirit at the 2013 Met Gala, and make sure to check out all the ladies on the Met Gala red carpet!

Met Gala: Elle and Dakota Fanning Double Up on the Rodarte

The Met Gala was a family affair for one of the night's more adorable duos.

The Met Gala was a family affair for one of the night's more adorable duos. Sisters Dakota and Elle Fanning teamed up with fellow siblings Kate and Laura Mulleavy, the designers behind Rodarte, for their red carpet ensembles. While big sister Dakota went for a more sophisticated gown with a plunging neckline and sheer cutout midriff, the 15-year-old Elle opted to play with tie-dye in red, blue, and white silk. Despite similar silhouettes, the outfits weren't overly coordinated — and they both put their own spin on the night's punk theme. So, do you love the Fannings' looks?

For us, the Sundance Film Festival is as much about the fashion as it is about the movies.

For us, the Sundance Film Festival is as much about the fashion as it is about the movies. We've spotted Shailene Woodley and Naomi Watts there over the weekend, and now Kate Bosworth, Dakota Fanning, and Amanda Seyfried have made their way to Park City to debut their newest films. Kate, of course, brought her style game in two enviable looks — Mulberry by day and Calvin Klein by night — while Elizabeth Olsen and Dakota went for similar white and black combos with oversize outerwear. Watch on for all the scoop! On Allison McNamara: H&M dress, J.Crew jacket. Hair and makeup by Kasia Bohos.

Dakota Talks Risqué Role and Working With "Connected" Gyllenhaal Family

Dakota Fanning and Elizabeth Olsen continued celebrating their Sundance Film Festival movie Very Good Girls at Fresh's celebratory "Fresh Faces of Sundance" brunch Rock and Reilly's on Wednesday.

Dakota Fanning and Elizabeth Olsen continued celebrating their Sundance Film Festival movie Very Good Girls at Fresh's celebratory "Fresh Faces of Sundance" brunch Rock and Reilly's on Wednesday. We stopped by to chat with the two young actresses about working with director Naomi Foner, mother to Jake and Maggie Gyllenhaal. Naomi's son-in-law, Peter Sarsgaard, also has a role in the film, which is just one example of how connected the family is. Dakota spoke about working with Naomi, saying, "I mean, you meet Naomi, and she's like instant maternal love. . . . If you meet Naomi, you meet Ramona, and you meet Jake, and you meet Maggie, and you meet Peter. They are such a connected family — they're very open, warm, loving people." This motherly nature also helped Dakota feel more comfortable with the role, which is a more revealing and risqué part than she's taken on before. Elizabeth and Dakota also shared that they have the same circle of friends and signed on for Very Good Girls simultaneously after chatting about it at a "bonfire in a friend's backyard."

Jake Gyllenhaal stepped out to support mom Naomi Foner, the screenwriter behind Very Good Girls, at the film's Sundance Film Festival premiere last night. He was joined by brother-in-law Peter Sarsgaard, who's married to Maggie Gyllenhaal and also stars in the picture. It was an extra busy night for Peter, since he also debuted Lovelace with Amanda Seyfried. Very Good Girls leading lady Dakota Fanning attended the screening at the Eccles Center theater and later on linked up with her and Peter's costar Elizabeth Olsen at an afterparty. Jake made the rounds with his pal Jenny Lewis. He looked good while doing so — Jake has a new look, with slicked-back hair, for a new project. He's been in Georgia making Prisoners with Hugh Jackman.
