The Planet Tries to Kill Will and Jaden Smith in the Trailer For After Earth

Will Smith and son Jaden are back together playing father and son in the postapocalyptic thriller After Earth.

Will Smith and son Jaden are back together playing father and son in the postapocalyptic thriller After Earth. Though we'd been introduced to crash survivors Cypher (Will Smith) and Kitai (Jaden Smith) in the teaser for After Earth, this new trailer provides a lot more of the background. Cypher is a ranger — a member of the elite special forces — and Kitai is in training when their mission crash-lands on Earth. Humans have long since abandoned the planet, which now houses creatures that have adapted to kill humans. Cypher must teach Kitai not to feel fear, as the creatures can sense the pheromones.

After Earth comes from writer/director M. Night Shyamalan, and since it's been a while since the filmmaker has blown away audiences with a good twist, I've got my fingers crossed that he's got some tricks up his sleeve. I'm also really looking forward to seeing the Smiths together on screen again (seven years after The Pursuit of Happyness), and what we'll be encountering on this altered planet. The movie is set for a June 7 release, and you can watch the trailer after the jump.

After Earth Trailer: Will and Jaden Smith Go Postapocalyptic

If you didn't get your postapocalyptic fix for the week from the Oblivion trailer, perhaps this first preview for M.

If you didn't get your postapocalyptic fix for the week from the Oblivion trailer, perhaps this first preview for M. Night Shyamalan's After Earth will do the trick. This one's a father-and-son story, starring real-life father and son Will Smith and Jaden Smith. The two are left to fend for themselves when their spaceship crash-lands onto a mostly deserted planet Earth, which has been human-free for a thousand years.

There are two things that really caught my attention in this trailer: the first is Will Smith's strange, vaguely Southern accent that we hear as he narrates over the imagery of a lush, jungle-like version of our planet. The second is how much Jaden Smith has grown up. The adorable kid from The Pursuit of Happyness is a full-fledged teenager now, and I'm looking forward to seeing if he's inherited his father's action-star capabilities. We'll have to wait until next Summer to find out, but until then, check out the preview when you read more

Will Smith went shirtless for a day on the beach in Hawaii with his kids Willow and Jaden. Will Smith's six-pack is always a welcome sight and has been a staple on movie sets in year's past. Now it's time for the Smith family to relax after Will spent the Spring and early Summer shooting Men in Black III in NYC. While Will worked on the latest installment in his blockbuster franchise, his successful kids racked up appearances in the spotlight. Willow and Jaden Smith won a BET award last month, and they popped up on the red carpet for Transformers: Dark of the Moon as well.

Shia LaBeouf and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley hit the Transformers: Dark of the Moon premiere last night in NYC's Times Square, which was decked out with a huge Transformer, Bumblebee, and about 1,000 screaming fans! Organizers of the screening went for a party atmosphere, complete with a DJ and even a host! Members of the cast like Ken Jeong and Josh Duhamel walked the red carpet along with fans of the franchise like Willow and Jaden Smith. We snagged a moment with an Antonio Berardi-clad Rosie, who told us about how her background as a model came in handy while shooting this movie. She said, "I think it helped me run in heels! I think that was one of the main things it definitely helped me with." Patrick Dempsey, meanwhile, walked the carpet with his wife Jillian by his side. The Grey's Anatomy star chatted about Rosie joining the mix of men. Patrick said, "She knows how to take care of herself in a situation with a lot of guys around! She's got a great sense of humor." Tyrese Gibson also weighed in on Rosie's role in the film, calling her "a sexy beast!" Shia, meanwhile, spoke about graduating from the Transformers franchise after three movies. Shia said, "I'm so thrilled. This is the best movie we've ever made. Had we not made a good movie, I wouldn't be thrilled. I'd probably want another shot at it."

Alicia Debuts "Typewriter," Justin Teams Up With Nicki, and Rihanna Wins Then Loses to Chris Brown at BET Awards

The BET Awards celebrated the largest names in hip-hop and R&B with wild fashion, high-energy dance routines, and a mini scandal at LA's Shrine Auditorium last night.

The BET Awards celebrated the largest names in hip-hop and R&B with wild fashion, high-energy dance routines, and a mini scandal at LA's Shrine Auditorium last night. The show kicked off with a mashup of hits from Mary J. Blige before the awards were dished out to the night's winners. Taking a break from touring with Britney Spears, Nicki Minaj joined Justin Bieber to present the best male hip-hop artist award to Kanye West. Nicki didn't go home empty handed as she took home the honors for best female hip-hop artist. Justin was without his girlfriend, Selena Gomez, but he was in the company of pals Jaden and Willow Smith, who stepped out with their parents, Will and Jada, and the siblings shared the win in the young stars category.

The night was full of incredible performances including a medley of hits and the debut of a new single, "Typewriter," from Alicia Keys, who was also marking the 10-year anniversary of her mega hit album Songs in A Minor. Most of the evening went down without a hitch, but there was a critical mix-up in BET's viewer's choice category when Chris Brown was announced the winner, then it was switched to Rihanna and Drake. Turns out Chris was the actual winner, and the error was due to teleprompter confusion, though Drake admittedly felt "awkward" about the error. Chris finished out the evening with four awards while Jennifer Hudson grabbed the win for best female R&B artist and Patti LaBelle was recognized with a lifetime achievement award — get the full list of BET winners here!

Jada Pinkett Smith not only stars on HawthoRNe, but she's also the executive producer of the TV show. She's half of one of Hollywood's biggest power couples, and husband Will Smith also contributes to the show. Last night Jada chatted with Chelsea Handler about what it's like to work with a spouse. Jada explained that while things get sticky sometimes, since she and Will each have distinctive styles, working together comes with perks. Watch her explain that there's nothing like creating something successful with the person you love.

Will Smith Celebrates His Son Trey's Graduation With Jada, Jaden, and Willow!

The whole Smith family stepped out in LA yesterday to watch as Will's oldest son, Trey, graduated from high school!

The whole Smith family stepped out in LA yesterday to watch as Will's oldest son, Trey, graduated from high school! Will flew West during a break in shooting Men in Black III in NYC to join his wife, Jada, and younger children Willow and Jaden at the event. Trey had both his stepmom, Jada, and mom, Sheree Zampino, on hand. Easygoing Will was even spotted mingling with the other proud parents and introducing himself to some of Trey's classmates, though four bodyguards were apparently on hand in case a situation arose. Will was a frequent face around the school and was often in the stands cheering on Trey as he played football. Jada is presently gearing up for the return of her TV series Hawthorne and, in an interview with Uptown magazine, discussed how she and Will have allowed Jaden and Willow to be child stars. She said, "Believe it or not, they're both like me and Will . . . Willow's a lot like me — just in the chances she'll take. And then, Jaden has the drive of his father. Jaden and I are what I call introverted extroverts. Willow and Will are more pow! Jaden and I, well, we don't give that to just anybody . . . There are so many other kids you can worry about. My kids? They're going to be all right. I get why people would criticize. But people need to know that Will and I would never put our children in a situation that would bring them detriment."

The 24th annual Kids' Choice Awards brought out tons of stars to the Galen Center on the campus of USC in downtown LA last night. Nickelodeon flew an enormous orange blimp over the event and rolled out the neon carpet for the arrival of young celebrities like Willow and Jaden Smith, Miley Cyrus, and Selena Gomez. The night kicked off with an energetic performance from the Black Eyed Peas who were joined on stage during dance routine by the show's host, Jack Black. Johnny Depp made a surprise appearance and was the first winner of the evening. He's a veteran of dealing with slime and celebrated his win for best male actor by dispensing a shower of green rain over the audience, and himself. Heidi Klum got in on the fun as well when she opened an envelope that splashed the goo all over her Dolce & Gabbana dress, while her presenting partner Nick Cannon managed to avoid the mess. Will Smith kept dry throughout the evening and watched from the front row during Willow's adorable mashup of "21st Century Girl" and "Whip My Hair."

Justin Timberlake was on hand to receive the Big Help Award, which celebrates stars who give back to the community. Russell Brand took a break from promoting Hop and Arthur to team up with Modern Family's Rico Rodriguez, though Katy Perry couldn't be there to accept her award for favorite female singer as she's currently on tour. Miley Cyrus took home the coveted blimp for best female actress in a floral floor length Dolce & Gabbana gown and Kim Kardashian wore a short and flirty mini dress to present the last award of the night. Don't forget to weigh in on all of Fab and Bella's live love it or leave it polls from the show!

Justin Bieber was surrounded by fans and celebrities last night at the star-studded LA premiere of his 3D film, Never Say Never. His girlfriend, Selena Gomez, came out for the screening but didn't pose beside him on the red carpet or indulge in another hot and heavy make-out session. Usher and Will Smith made it a family affair — Usher brought his impeccably dressed sons, Cinco and Naviyd, while Will gave Justin his stamp of approval after checking out the movie with Jada, Jaden, and Willow. Miley Cyrus also got in on the fun with her little sister, Noah. Justin's sure to make a big impact at the weekend box office, but he's up against some stiff competition. Another 3D project, Gnomeo and Juliet, is due to hit theaters, along with Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler's romantic comedy Just Go With It.
