Raven-Symoné Doesn't Want to Be Labeled "Gay" or "African American"

Raven-Symoné sat down with Oprah Winfrey for Sunday's episode of Oprah: Where Are They Now?, and things took a serious turn as the pair discussed sexuality and race. Referring to when Raven tweeted about gay marriage in 2013 and said "I can finally get married," Oprah asked the star whether that was her way of coming out. Raven said she didn't want to be labeled "gay," saying, "I want to be labeled a human who loves humans. I'm tired of being labeled. I'm an American; I'm not an African American." As soon as Raven dropped that line, Oprah jokingly called out, "Stop the tapes!" The host said, "You're going to get a lot of flak for saying you're not African American. You know that, right?" She then asked Raven to elaborate on what she meant by that, and the actress explained, "I don't know what country in Africa I'm from, but I do know that my roots are in Louisiana. I'm an American, and that's a colorless person." Watch the full clip above.
