Take Down Cellulite With This DIY Coffee Bean Body Scrub

While it's next to impossible to completely get rid of cellulite, there are a few things you can do to reduce its appearance. "I'm a huge fan of coffee grounds, and not just for your morning cup, but for your body as well," explains Jessica Kernochan, founder of eco beauty brand LaLicious. "The caffeine can help diminish the appearance of cellulite, and the coconut oil will hydrate and smooth your skin to perfection."

Ingredients:
1 cup coffee grounds
1/2 cup white or brown sugar
1 cup coconut oil

Directions:
Mix all the ingredients together thoroughly. After you've washed your hair and body, massage the scrub on wet skin and rinse with warm water. Your skin will be soft, hydrated, and ready to be bared in your favorite warm-weather ensembles.

With all due respect, you're just wasting your time rubbing this DIY coffee ground scrub on cellulite. Here are 3 reasons why: 1. Not enough caffeine: Studies have shown that 3% to 7% caffeine is required for a slimming effect. Used coffee grounds only contain about 0.5% caffeine. 2. Caffeine is water soluble: By mixing the grounds with coconut oil you're essentially blocking the caffeine from getting out of the grounds and into your skin. 3. Caffeine absorption takes time: Unlike many ingredients caffeine can penetrate skin, however it's a slow process. The diffusion rate for caffeine through human skin is 2.2 x 10-6 grams per centimeter squared of skin, per hour. So it will take an hour or two to get sufficient caffeine into your skin. No one leaves a scrub on that long. Beauty websites like this should be careful about the misinformation they provide so people don't waste their time on DIY stuff like this that doesn't work or their money on expensive products that don't deliver.
