There's finally a noncommittal way of getting the very of-the-moment lob haircut without making the big chop. Canadian YouTube blogger Elanna Pecherle has a step-by-step tutorial on how to create the illusion of the lob by simply curling and pinning longer strands to the nape. Well, there's a little bit more to it than that . . .

To emulate Pecherle's faux lob, start by creating a deep side part to achieve a classic, vintage look. Then section your hair half up, half down, braid the under layer, and pin it at the base. Tightly curl every section of your hair with a curling iron — you'll definitely need sectioning clips here. Brush out your curls so that you end up with glamorous waves, not Shirley Temple ringlets. Set the shape of the waves with clips and lots of hair spray. The tutorial's pièce de résistance? Tuck and pin the ends of your hair to your nape. Leave a few teased tendrils out in the front to disguise some of the pinned strands.

Try Pecherle's trick for a glam Great Gatsby-inspired costume — or if you just want to convince your friends that you're brave enough for the drastic cut.
